Synchronicity Theatre opens the 2013-2014 season with the world premiere of Milvotchkee, Visconsin. Written by Laura Jacqmin and directed by Patricia Henritze, Milvotchkee, Visconsin balances witty vernacular and beautiful narrative with a stirring and touching story, creating a refreshingly intimate theatrical experience. In this ‘comedy about a tragedy,’ we see the world through Molly’s eyes as she guides us through Wisconsin’s Concrete Park and the vagaries of getting older, handling both with humor, bewilderment and a can-do spirit. Laura Jacqmin's script will open your eyes and your heart to lives lived with dignity and dreams fulfilled. Milvotchkee, Visconsin was discovered and developed in our 2011-12 SheWRITES Festival. About the Play

MILVOTCHKEE, VISCONSIN has been developed over the past four years in readings at Atlantic Theater Company and Barrow Street Theater (New York); in a workshop/reading at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts (Wisconsin); and through Synchronicity’s SheWRITES festival. It was inspired, in part, by Laura Jacqmin's grandfather.

About Wisconsin's Concrete Park

In 1950, at age 65, retired lumberjack Fred Smith began construction of the Wisconsin Concrete Park. He created more than 200 sculptures built on wooden frames wrapped with mink wire. The frames, covered with hand-mixed cement, are embellished with various materials, such as glass, wood, mirrors, metal and stone. Some of his most widely recognized statues include Ben Hur, the Lincoln Todd Monument, Sacajawea, Paul Bunyan and the Iwo Jima Monument. Smith's work is internationally regarded as a masterwork of American sculpture and a fascinating collection of folk art. The park is maintained by the Price County Forestry and Parks Department and the Price County Tourism Department with assistance from the Friends of Fred Smith Inc., with restoration efforts continuing on a regular basis. The park is open year-round. The Historic Smith House is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day daily and seasonal hours otherwise. For more:
