In the countryside outside of Paris in 1874, a group of artists debate the future of art, a dinner held to plan the first Impressionist exhibit. No women artists were allowed, the table. Inspired by a painting in the National Gallery of Art commemorating this event, playwright Heather McDonald writes about the fury and self-doubt caused by invisibility, and “the longing, for women as well as men, to have a fusion of passion and work in their lives." In their own forum – under a canopy of stars — Clovis, Pola and Dolores shout of their desire to mold the clay, to celebrate the light in paint and canvas and, most importantly, to be taken seriously – as women and as artists.
