The Dashwood sisters are in a precarious position (and, the center of gossip) after the sudden death of their father. Practical Elinor and playful Marianne must both find husbands to secure their finances and social standing. But finding love in a society where appearances are everything can be...well, it's complicated. Jane Austen's beloved novel is brought to life with a sparkling contemporary voice in Kate Hamill's bold, theatrical adaptation.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT

Kate Hamill, an NYC-based playwright and actor, is originally from the farms and fields of upstate New York. She lives in Queens with her partner, Jason O'Connell. She’s in her mid-30s. As a writer, Kate specializes in stories about people who struggle to reconcile the demands of society with the dictates of their consciences. As an actor, she tends to play truth-tellers, oddballs and misfits. In 2014, her adaptation of Sense and Sensibility (in which she originated the role of Marianne) premiered off-off-Broadway. S&S was named to the Top 10 Theater of 2014 by Ben Brantley of The New York Times and the Huffington Post, which called it “the greatest stage adaptation of this novel in history.” It was remounted off-Broadway in 2016, with Kate reprising her role. The remount was extended 4 times, running 265+ performances. It was nominated for best revival by the Drama League and 2 Lortels, and won the off-Bway Alliance Award for best unique theatrical performance. Kate is a member of Oscar-nominee Jose Rivera's writing/development group. Kate will be in the casts of 2017 off-Bway productions of her plays Vanity Fair and Pride and Prejudice, the Pearl and Primary Stages.
